David archuleta was introduced to american idol producers in season 1, and was immediately shopped for a record deal. I guess they realized a good voice doesnt make you interesting. He also won star search at age 12.

Ever wonder how they pick songs? Well each week, they get a list of 50 songs, and they have to pick and learn 3. THen the producers decide which of the 3 they sing. Yeah thats right. So the next time you hear a judge say bad song choice...you can call bullshit. Remember this guy?

Im not sure if it was always run like this. I kinda think it was probably a little less tainted in the beginning. who knows. I guess its like every other "reality" show.
